Free Periods HK is committed to menstrual education and destigmatising menstruation to create a more period-friendly environment in Hong Kong. We can provide menstrual education talks in different formats and on a range of topics. Schools, social organisations, and enterprises may choose a topic according to their needs to deepen their understanding of menstruation and related discussions.
Topics of our talks include:
1. “Personal Growth and Development”
Understanding basic knowledge of the menstrual cycle, debunking common misconceptions and myths about menstruation, understanding the impact of menstruation on personal growth, and learning how to assist individuals who are negatively affected by menstruation.
2. “Public Spaces and Domains”
How does space design affect people who menstruate? Facilities in toilets, spaces for people who menstruate to relax and rest, environments that encourage open discussion about menstruation—all of these have a significant impact on enhancing period-friendliness. Expanding these to the social and workplace levels, how can we establish more gender-friendly policies?
3. “Family Relationships and Gender Education”
Can you comfortably talk about menstruation within your family? Do males not need to learn about menstruation? What topic should be included in menstrual education?
4. “Period Poverty and Global Development Trends”
Many countries still face the issue of period poverty, where people who menstruate experience inequality due to the economic burden of menstrual products and the lack of knowledge. How do policies, cultures, and practical measures in different countries affect the well-being of people who menstruate?
In addition to educational talks, we also offer small-group workshops, such as in-depth introductions to menstrual products and self-care during menstruation. We can make cloth sanitary pads with participants while discussing menstruation-related matters. We have also designed and launched the bilingual “Buddy Buddy Conversation Cards”, a deck that facilitate relaxing discussions about menstruation revolving personal, family, and societal aspects, which can be included in our activities pack.
If you would like to bring menstrual education activities to your school or organisation, please reach out to us by emailing to hello@freeperiods.org.hk.
